Proper use of apostrophes is a must for all smart teenagers. Apostrophes have two main functions.
First, apostrophes take the place of missing letters in contractions.
Second, apostrophes indicate possession.
Example: AG's appearance on WBNG news last night as this week's Scholar Athlete didn't surprise me. She's worked hard for many years and deserves this honor.
"AG" and "week" use an apostrophe to indicate possession whereas "she" and "did not" use an apostrophe to indicate a missing letter. She + is = she's. Did + not = didn't.
Common Mistakes:
#1 Your vs. You're
Your going to regret eating those three pork sandwiches. This sentence is incorrect because it is missing its verb. It should read, You're going to regret eating those three pork sandwiches. The apostrophe indicates that letters are missing. You + are = You're.
#2 Its and It's
"Its" as a possessive does not take an apostrophe.
The dog chased its tail.
"It's" represents a missing letter or letters.
It's been days since Tim recorded an animal in the wild. It + has =It's
It's nice to see Emily back in school today. It + is = It's
Please respond to this posting by deftly incorporating all of today's grammar items into a brilliant sentence or paragraph.
Love,
Mizzle Dawg

I didn't forget to read Mrs. Krieger's blog today
You're not going to believe this but its Cleo's fault that this comment isn't a paragraph long.
you're going to have to forgive me because im bad at writing things but it's imperitive to my learning
You weren't able to kill the bear because you didn't punch it before he got on top of you!
Mrs Kreiger! Jaclyn's car is done for it. Her and Colin got into an accident with snaggled tooth young girl! They'll be okay, though. The funny part is that she kept driving home as my mom followed. Then, without warning, the hood flipped up! Hahahaha! So she surrendered the car and she and Colin were forced to ride home in my mom's car.
Mr.Merlino wears crazy ties. It's his personal contribution to the world of fashion. Certainly different from my way of dressing, but if you're a cool kid, you're most definitely a fan of his.
Mrs.Krieger, your idea of video games in the classroom is brilliant! It's a great way to learn in a fun way.. I think that if the policies in our school weren't so strict we could definately get it by the school, because i kno many of the kids would vote this a YES!!! I say we find a way to prove to the school administration that video games could be very educational and a new great way to learn!
It is very hard to type properly on this thing because our generation likes to use slang and shortcuts.
I'm enjoying blogging; a girl's favorite way of communication.
It's really cool that your blog has a sentence about me. :)
Ellis Island, who has a black belt in fashion, thinks that if a person dresses very badly, it's their fault for not having any fashion sense. When creating your own style, please be sure to look in the mirror before you leave for your destination. Your style can be very bizarre, if you so please, just make sure it's not containing every color of the rainbow and then some!
OH MY GOODNESS!!! Mr. Merlino was subbing in gym today. It was quite funny!! He was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, I've never seen him wear that before so I laughed. Mr. Merlino's so crazy sometimes!!
You're going to enjoy my last post. It's very thoughtful and exciting! Not really, but just pretend it is=]
Mrs.Krieger, you're one of the most creative teahers i think i've ever had! It's so much fun to be a part of your class!
Your way of teaching grammar is much better than the old fashion way. They still do a lot of that in Vermont elementary schools. I think that it's only benefit is that it almost put my ex-librarian fourth grade teacher in a good mood.
My sister's coat is very fuzzy. It's also a very bright blue color
Mrs. Krieger's class is the best. It's fun, relaxing, full of learning and only the best kids take it! You're going to regret not taking communications with Mrs. Krieger!
You're going to be happy that it's snowing out.
It's an honor to be Mrs. Krieger's student. She has been the only person at UEHS that has truely educated me.
I think it's amazing how we can learn grammar through blogs. You're a very ingenious teacher for implementing this idea both inside and outside the classroom.
Mrs. Krieger's way of teaching grammar is a lot better than most people. It's fun to learn about it on the comupter instead of the traditional way in your classroom!
This isn't going to be a very interesting sentence.
I don't know where my comment that I posted yesterday went on Mrs. Krieger's Blog.
I love Mrs. Krieger's class so much, that if I didn't go to class, I might cry.
Mrs. Krieger, it's very nice to be back at school and i'm very happy that you're excited to see me!! I hope your weekend is delightful!
It's very interesting to juxtapose internet grammar to English grammar.
It's really annoying when people can't use "they're, their, and there" in correct ways. :)
Anne Marie's intelligence surpasses all human expectations. Furthermore, I simply make anyone who's got this notion twisted, look foolish.
It's really sunny out right.
I didn't remember to read mrs. Krieger's blog on February 29 but I didn't forget to post a comment about grammar.
Mrs.Krieger! I was very busy Saturday and didn't get to come home until 12:30 pm. You're going to have to forgive me for not blogging.
Mrs.Krieger, it's 6:43 pm and i'm writing this blog to you. How was your weekend. You're going to be in school on monday I hope. Well it's been great writing to you once again!
Mr. Merlino's attire was strangely 'normal' when he was substituting for eighth period's gym class on friday.
Also, this is the third time today that I have left a comment on a blog and ruined the nice, even number that it was prior to my commenting. I've successfully ruined a 40, 35 and 5. tsktsk,
We're going to have quite a fun week this week. You know, it's foreign language weekand therefore, italian's get to show how much ass they kick.
I'd love to see Yellowcard in concert. Sean Mackin's use of the violin makes their music stand out.
I'm sorry it took me so long to respond to Mrs. Krieger's post about apostrophes.
That's Glen's notebook!
It's been a couple days since I posted a new topic.
